All Aboard the New Orleans on the 4th Evening

With the popularity of the Living Advent Calendar increasing exponentially and Tuesday night's event being a full house with us turning guests away (or at least turning their attention to the nibbles), word had spread about last evening's also being limited to 180 people on the boat. So the crowd started arriving earlier than the 6:15 p.m. start, which made the atmosphere very festive from the off.

Walking the boards to the boat itself was very exciting, and a chance to see a boat that you may have often walked past and wondered what it might be like to see from the inside. It certainly doesn't disappoint, and the colour scheme was perfect for providing a Christmas backdrop, especially being all warm and cosy and on the river, with its burgundy fabrics and wooden interior. It was as if we had all been transported into some other magical world (from Downton Abbey or perhaps Poirot?), with the Christmas tree in place, tables all set, and mulled wine and hot mince pies all smelling divine.

Very soon, people of all ages had taken their seats, enjoyed some chatter with friends, family, and their new neighbours, and were indulging in the drinks and nibbles whilst waiting to find out what tonight's performance might be. This turned out to be 19 year old Toby Marlow, who sang at last year's Advent Calendar with his parents, and is currently enjoying a gap year before heading to university to pursue a degree in English. Toby played and sang beautifully and a wonderful time was had by all.

The venue was Hobbs of Henley, the partner was the Chocolate Theatre Cafe, and the two fantastic raffle prizes for tonight were afternoon tea for tea at the Chocolate Theatre Cafe, and a day's boat charter from Hobbs.

The Henley Living Advent is helping to raise funds for four local charities: Henley Youth Club, Poppy Appeal, Regatta for the Disabled, and Oceans Project. Please do come along and see us tonight at 6:15 p.m. for the fifth night of fun. We'll be at the River and Rowing Museum, and with more great raffle prizes to be won.
