Dancing on the Winter Solstice Caused Venues to be Changed by Winter Weather

Torrential rain caused Saturday’s performance to be moved from the Market Square into the warmth and dryness of the Town Hall. Not only was it Strictly Dancing Finals on TV, there was also ballroom dancers as the Surprise Act of Night 21 of the Living Advent Calendar. Richard Miles, who will be running a Monday evening Dance Class in the Town Hall itself from New Year onwards, brought his dancers to delight the audience. They jived, they rhumba-ed, and Richard and his partner Gemma were applauded for their impressive lifts. Even the Mayor joined in, as Richard took up the challenge to teach him how to dance Latin American in four minutes flat! Despite the dreadful weather, well over 100 local residents enjoyed the evening and the platters of cold meat and fried morsels, washed down with an excellent mulled wine, courtesy of the new restaurant in the Town Square : The Square. The evening’s raffle prizes were a magnum of red wine from Laithwaites and a box of Christmas goodies including a gingerbread house, from Lawlor’s bakery.
