Henley Fire & Rescue Crew's blazing performance

Last evening's venue was the Henley Fire Station, and the partner was The Argyll pub in Henley. Tonight's raffle prize was tea or coffee and cake at Henley's wonderful Hot Gossip coffeehouse.

The evening's festivities were announced by Town Counsellor Kelly, outside the Fire Station.

And so the story began, with our Fire Brigade acting all parts and narrating the story. Mr and Mrs were at home relaxing and drinking tea, when they realised that something was amiss.....

...poor old santa had managed to get himself stuck up the chimney, and though Mr and Mrs tried as hard as they could to rescue him, he just wouldn't come unstuck.

So they did what all good citizens would do, and called out the fire brigade to come and save poor santa from the chimney.

Soon enough, the fire brigade arrived in their little engine, and set about trying to rescue santa from being stuck up the chimney. But nothing they did seemed to work.

Until they tried a new approach, and thank goodness it worked! The clever fire brigade managed to free santa from the chimney, and he was able to go about his Christmas duties, and everyone was happy ever after.

Special thanks to everyone who came along this evening to enjoy the festivities, and to help raise funds for four local charities. Please do come along tonight, 6.15pm at the Regal Picture House, sponsored by Waitrose. Our raffle prize a bottle of champagne donated by Waitrose in Henley.

Did the firemen know that today the South West New Service would be publishing a report about an owl named Santa who got stuck up a chimney and was rescued by the local fire fighters?
