Orchestral manoeuvres in the wind

Orchestral manoeuvres in the wind

Night 5 of the Living Advent took everyone to the gardens of Leander Club, where the large and enthusiastic audience was treated to a great performance of festive tunes and classics (including Que Sera Sera and ‘the Snowman’) by the 40 strong ‘Youthful Orchestra’, notwithstanding 40 mph+ winds howling round Leander! The orchestra performed on the balcony and the building mercifully acted as a windbreak, although they had to content with the odd music sheet or music stand blowing over!

The audience were treated to mince pies and sausage rolls by our hosts, and partners Brakspears warmed the audience with some festive ale.

Fundraising on the night was for the Royal British Legion, and the setting, cause and fabulous prizes (including from hosts Leander), were obviously well received since it represented the highest amount of donations in one night so far this year.

Richard Rodway of the Living Advent and Paul Green of Royal British Legion introduced the orchestra, and the raffle was presided over by Mr Rodway, Shirley Lees of Royal British Legion and Laura Reineke of the Henley Music School and Orchestra.

Next, we move on to Phyllis Court where the audience will be treated to the warmth of indoors for the first time this year, and where fundraising will be for Regatta for the Disabled.
