This year’s Living Advent Calendar finally ran out of luck with the weather on day 9, but the drizzle did not dampen Christmas spirits or prompt any ‘bah humbug down on the terrace at (Shaun) Dickens’ restaurant (recently crowned Oxfordshire’s restaurant of the year) at the Boathouse by the Thames.

After a few technical hitches and blown fuses (as the tech initially could not take the power of the ‘No Direction’ boys) which threatened a gloomy acoustic set, the nutty boys from Henley entertained another large crowd...

Debuting in the Living Advent Calendar, Anna Nightingale (accompanied by guitarist Ian Gudgeon) entertained another large audience of over 100 on night 8 with a range of uplifting tracks – starting with the Beatles ‘Help!’, finishing on the Kinks ‘Sunny Afternoon’ and visiting the likes of Van Morrison’s ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ and a country version of ‘Tainted Love’ in between...

Baroness Maria Von Hackerman was a huge hit with the large Phyllis Court crowd, and thoroughly entertained the audience with a typically uplifting and fun cabaret performance, assisted in no small part to some audience participation from Phyllis Court members Dion and Geoff. Dion impressed the crowd with his conversing with Maria in fluent in German, whilst both he and Geoff amused with their ‘dancing’ under instruction from the Baroness...
