Magoos - Monday 12th

Highlights

The halfway stage of this year’s event was at Magoos, a Living Advent venue for the first time. Audience on arrival at the bar in Hart Street were treated to some delicious curry from partners for the night “Cook Curry Club”. Having been exposed to freezing and then monsoon like conditions at LACal2014 and LACal2015, Kran Sondh was very pleased to be inside in the warm in 2016!

Richard Rodway welcomed the audience which packed the Vaults bar and announced that they were being treated to 3 surprises that night. The surprises took the form of 3 local up and coming acoustic performaners organised by Jayson Jaurigue of Eightray Music / Music on the Meadows. Maya Rees performed a couple of tracks including “Real Love” by the Beatles, made more festively famous in the last couple of years by a well known department store TV ad, and Tom Odell. Lottie Bell then performed Beyonce Knowles’ reworking or “Ave Maria”, which also had a decidedly festive feel, as well as Vance Joy’s “Riptide”. Georgia Michel then returned to the Living Advent having performed at Angel on the Bridge in 2015 with a track she composed herself, before getting the audience going to finish with a rousing audience participation version of Shaking Stevens’ “Merry Christmas Everyone”.

The night saw a raffle and fundraising on behalf of Riverside Counselling. Mayor Brookes presided over the raffle which included some prizes donated by the charity as well as some Kenton panto tickets.

Day #13 will now see the event return outdoors to the gardens of Simmons & Son on Bell Street. Always a special night in the “grotto” and one of the Living Advent’s habitual hidden gems. Knox & Eames accountants will be partnering, and fundraising will be for Bishopswood Special School.

Every evening Dec 1st - 24th, 6:15 to 6:45pm
